These Pepperoni Rolls feature a fluffy, tender bread dough filled with melted mozzarella cheese and classic pepperoni slices. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they are easy to prepare and baked to golden perfection with a savory Italian seasoning touch.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 16 ounces frozen bread dough, thawed (thaw according to package directions)

Filling

  • 16 slices pepperoni (divided use)
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese, cut into 4ths (divided use)
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided use)

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, well beaten
  • Splash of water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a large sheet tray with parchment paper and set it aside for later.
  2. Divide Dough: Place the thawed bread dough on a clean work surface and cut it into 8 equal parts.
  3. Flatten Dough: Using your hands, flatten each piece of dough into approximately a 4×4-inch diameter circle.
  4. Add Fillings: Place 2 slices of pepperoni in the center of each flattened dough piece, followed by 2 slices of the cut mozzarella cheese on top. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning according to your liking.
  5. Form Rolls: Fold the two outer edges of the dough over the filling, then roll tightly and pinch the seams together to seal securely.
  6. Arrange on Tray: Place each roll seam side down on the prepared parchment-lined sheet tray, spacing them so they do not touch.
  7. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg with a splash of water. Lightly brush this egg wash over the exposed surface of each dough roll for a golden finish.
  8. Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the pepperoni rolls to cool on the tray for about 5 minutes before serving. They pair wonderfully with pizza or marinara sauce, if desired.

Notes

  • You can increase the amount of pepperoni or cheese inside for a more indulgent filling.
  • Make sure to pinch the seams tightly to prevent filling leakage during baking.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated before serving.
  • Italian seasoning can be substituted or supplemented with dried oregano or basil for variation.
  • If you prefer, you can use homemade bread dough instead of frozen for a fresher taste.
